Which Pandemic are you living with right now?

We are living in uncertain times right now and I know that we are all facing situations that are new and uncomfortable for us. We are walking on opposite sides of the street to avoid being near someone. We stand six feet apart from others when we want to talk with someone.
Now that many of us are wearing a face mask…..it seems to me that many of the people that I watch are hiding behind them in order not to smile or even make contact with you. I said hello to several people today that I walked past and they completely ignored me and acted like I had no right to talk to them. Their masks that they wear….does not give them the right to be rude.
” For God has not given us the spirit of fear, but of power and love and of a sound mind.” 2 Timothy 1:17
A pandemic of any kind is unsettling….you almost find your self frozen in time and not knowing what you can or cannot do. What are we allowed to touch or not touch? Where are we allowed to go or not go? But what I see happening more and more above and beyond the virus restrictions that are being imposed on us …is the fear that is being drilled in our heads.
People are paralyzed with fear right now….just look are around! They are panicking over food, supplies, and many other things. Many of these things they don’t even need. We are a people that seem to be driven to fear right now and it is becoming worse and worse.
But wait STOP…..what is fear? To me, it is a tool that has been used over and over again by many leaders, parents, and supervisors, etc… to manipulate people to do what they want. Fear can drive us to do things that we never thought we would do or not do. I have had to stop myself from reading Facebook, social media, and even the daily news. The more I allow myself to see, read, and hear these things the more I am feeling frightened and paralyzed to want to go and live life.
How many times in the bible did we find men in a situation where fear could have stopped them from doing what God was telling them…? David Goliath, Joseph, King David, Noah, Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego, Mary the Mother of Jesus and the list goes on and on. If they choose to not do what God asked them to do the story would have been very different.
Some of us might feel like Jonah right now and in the belly of a large something (in his case a large fish). Either way, we might have been frightened and ran off in the other direction of where we were supposed to go. But after left in a bad place and situation just like Jonah we too can come to realize that what God is calling us to do is where we need to be.
I challenge all of us to roll up our sleeves, put the fear and panic aside from this virus, or whatever else that is causing fear in your life and make a choice today to do and go where you were called to go.
