Jesus said to them, “Truly, truly, I say to you, before Abraham was, I am.” John 8:58
I AM SAID “I WILL” [i]
- I will make of you a great nation
- I will bless you and make your name great, so that you will be a blessing.
- I will bless those who bless you, and him who dishonors you I will curse, and in you all the families of the earth shall be blessed.”
- “To your offspring I will give this land.”
- I will establish my covenant between me and you and your offspring after you throughout their generations for an everlasting covenant, to be God to you and to your offspring after you.
- And I will give to you and to your offspring after you the land of your sojournings, all the land of Canaan, for an everlasting possession
- I will be (your) God. (parenthesis added pronoun changed)
I AM SAID “YOU SHALL”[ii]
- “I am the Lord your God, who brought you out of the land of Egypt, out of the house of slavery. “You shall have no other gods before me.”
- “You shall not make for yourself a carved image, or any likeness of anything that is in heaven above, or that is in the earth beneath, or that is in the water under the earth.”
- “You shall not bow down to them or serve them, for I the Lord your God am a jealous God…”
- “You shall not take the name of the Lord your God in vain…
- (You shall) “Remember the Sabbath day, to keep it holy. Six days you shall labor, and do all your work, but the seventh day is a Sabbath to the Lord your God. On it you shall not do any work…” (parenthesis added)
- (You shall) “Honor your father and your mother, that your days may be long in the land that the Lord your God is giving you.” (parenthesis added)
- “You shall not murder.”
- “You shall not commit adultery.”
- “You shall not steal.”
- “You shall not bear false witness against your neighbor.”

- All we like sheep have gone astray; we have turned—every one—to his own way… Isaiah 53:6
- …for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God Romans 3:23
- For by works of the law no human being will be justified in his sight, since through the law comes knowledge of sin. Romans 3:20
I AM SAID “THEREFORE I WILL”
- …and the Lord has laid on him the iniquity of us all. Isaiah 53:6
- For God so loved the world, that he gave his only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life. John 3:16
- …but God shows his love for us in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us. Romans 5:8
- But now we are released from the law, having died to that which held us captive, so that we serve in the new way of the Spirit and not in the old way of the written code. Romans 7:6
I AM SAID “I HAVE”
- For God has done what the law, weakened by the flesh, could not do. By sending his own Son in the likeness of sinful flesh and for sin, he condemned sin in the flesh, in order that the righteous requirement of the law might be fulfilled in us, who walk not according to the flesh but according to the Spirit. Romans 8:3-4
I AM SAID “IT IS FINISHED.”
- When Jesus had received the sour wine, he said, “It is finished,” and he bowed his head and gave up his spirit. John 19:30
I AM SAID, “IT IS DONE”
- And he said to me, “It is done! I am the Alpha and the Omega, the beginning and the end.” Revelation 21:6
I AM SAID, “I WILL”
- “Behold, the dwelling place of God is with man. (I) will dwell with them, and they will be (My) people, and (I Myself) will be with them as their God. (I) will wipe away every tear from their eyes, and death shall be no more, neither shall there be mourning, nor crying, nor pain anymore, for the former things have passed away.” Revelation 21: 3-4 (Parenthesis added pronouns changed)
- “To the thirsty I will give from the spring of the water of life without payment. The one who conquers will have this heritage, and I will be his God and he will be my son.” Revelation 21:6
