Rest Stops

Come to Me, all you who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. (Matthew 11:28)
A few years ago I was in a really tough spot. I was “white knuckling” life and just kept pushing myself. Because of the way I was thinking I didn’t take time off until I was at the breaking point and “forced” to take time off. Since then, I have committed myself to spread my time off evenly throughout the year. In a perfect world that would work. I looked through my year and chose to take off after the Family Freedom Walk. Seemed like a great time to take a break. Dave and I planned a trip partly on our own and partly to visit family. It was a great time away. However, upon our return, Memorial Day Weekend was just two days away. The following week we went on a road trip for a wedding. Another great time packed with events and last minute plans that included friends and family. Upon our return, we headed straight into one of our conference weeks. By the end of the week, I knew we put too much travel into a busy month. I needed a vacation from my vacation!
I’ve looked over my calendar and have crossed out days in the next few weeks, and have committed to be home, to read, write and rest. Sometimes we can’t keep the perfect balance of work, ministry, and time for ourselves to recharge and be refreshed, BUT I remain committed to trying!
How about you? Are you busy all the time? No time to just smell the roses or the sea air? What does your calendar look like? Do you see any red “X’s” that block out time for rest? Planning a vacation? Good for you! Even in your vacation do you have intentional time for rest?
Make the time to be refreshed. God bids you to come and sit for a while. Do it!

This Week’s Verse to Memorize: In this you greatly rejoice, though now for a little while, if need be, you have been grieved by various trials, 7 that the genuineness of your faith, being much more precious than gold that perishes, though it is tested by fire, may be found to praise, honor, and glory at the revelation of Jesus Christ, -1 Peter 1:6-7
