Reflect God’s Glory (Part 2)

Last week, I encouraged you to meditate on two questions. 1) How many times do we put our head (ourselves) in the way?  And 2) How many times do we allow other things to come between God and us?

See, we may even put good things in the way, but our motives are wrong.  In the sermon on the mount in Matthew 5, Jesus says to us,

14 “You are the light of the world. A town built on a hill cannot be hidden.15 Neither do people light a lamp and put it under a bowl. Instead they put it on its stand, and it gives light to everyone in the house. 16 In the same way, let your light shine before others, that they may see your good deeds and glorify your Father in heaven.”

We are the light of the world because we are reflecting Jesus.  But we could sit at church and not use that light.  We can be a light of encouragement to others.  We can be a light that volunteers to teach, sing, watch the toddlers and babies, help at special events and in outreach programs.

We can sit at home and not reflect His light.  Family members need to be loved and encouraged every day.  We can be a light that is kind, tender-hearted, and forgiving toward them.  We can be the light that goes the extra mile with and for them.

Do we hide our light under a bowl in the community and workplace or do we let it shine?  There are so many ways we can do this, we just need to ask the Lord to show us the opportunities.  But, in all that we do, we must remember that it is all for God’s glory.  This is a children’s song written by Harry Dixon Loes that teaches this lesson.

This little light of mine, I’m gonna let it shine.
This little light of mine, I’m gonna let it shine
Let it shine, let it shine, let it shine.

Won’t let Satan blow it out.
I’m gonna let it shine.
Won’t let Satan blow it out.
I’m gonna let it shine, let it shine, let it shine, let it shine.

Hide it under a bushel, no!
I’m gonna let it shine.
Hide it under a bushel, no!
I’m gonna let it shine, Let it shine, let it shine, let it shine.

Let it shine til Jesus comes.
I’m gonna let it shine.
Let it shine til Jesus comes.
I’m gonna let it shine, let it shine, let it shine, let it shine.
