Rebel Heart

Posted on January 10, 2024 by Elizabeth Welte in Victory Call

There is a rebel heart that beats within my chest;

one I hate, yet one I love.

At times of temptation, when my faith fails,

in unbelief and rebellion I cling to what I want

far more often than I deny it, so that I may reach out to Jesus

with both hands and an undivided heart.

There are times I consciously run to Jesus,

trusting Him to live His life in and through me.

But, alas…

my memory leaks and I forget.

It occurs to me, that I live as if

my identity in Christ is something

I put on and over time it slides off;

When I remember, I put in on and again it slides off.

The truth of my identity in Christ is rooted in my head

but not in my heart –

where it would be unable to “slip off” or

be torn from me.

I am not alone. I believe many Christians would agree.

I am who Jesus says I am, not because of what I do or have done, but because of what He has done.

We live out who or what we believe we are.  We act according to our beliefs. For as he thinks in his heart, so is he… As in water face reflects face, So a man’s heart reveals the man. Proverbs 23:7 Proverbs 27:19 We cannot consistently live contrary to what we believe to be true about ourselves.[i]– We live out what we believe not what we know[ii]

Who are you?

Blessings,

Diane
