Breathe

For to set the mind on the flesh is death, but to set the mind on the Spirit is life and peace. Romans 8:6

Do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewal of your mind, that by testing you may discern what is the will of God, what is good and acceptable and perfect. Romans 12:2

Finally, brothers, whatever is true, whatever is honorable, whatever is just, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is commendable, if there is any excellence, if there is anything worthy of praise, think about these things. Philippians 4:8

My watch will send me a message to remind me to breathe. Breathing is involuntary and I don’t need to be reminded to inhale and exhale. However, purposeful deep cleansing breathing is not so natural. That does require more thought and frequent reminding. So, why stop and breathe with purpose? My reminder tells me it will help with my thinking.

This reminds me that the best thing I can do is to take a moment to consciously think on and practice the Word of God. Nothing else will get me to think properly than knowing and reminding myself of truth. As I write, I know there are thoughts running through my mind that are full of lies. I have to purposely take a moment to breathe in truth and correct the wrong thinking I am experiencing. It’s a bit harder than just breathing in air that my lungs will gratefully accept. When I breathe in God’s truth it has to get to my heart and mind. It’s not always easy. I would love to reach the point where breathing in truth is as easy as breathing in air.

I need to discipline myself in a deeper way. If I don’t, I will continue to breathe in shallow gasps of truth.  Until then I need reminders to breathe deeply and be refreshed by taking in full, heaping does of cleansing truth.

Blessings.
Kathy

This Week’s Verse to Memorize: For this very reason, make every effort to add to your faith goodness; and to goodness, knowledge; and to knowledge, self-control; and to self-control, perseverance; and to perseverance, godliness; and to godliness, mutual affection; and to mutual affection, love. For if you possess these qualities in increasing measure, they will keep you from being ineffective and unproductive in your knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ. 1 Peter 5-8(NIV)
