Because I Live

“A little while longer and the world will see Me no more, but you will see Me. Because I live, you will live also.” John 14:17
When I saw this was the verse that Ravi Zacharias had as his epitaph, I thought well, that’s a very appropriate scripture to use. I had no idea how the Lord had used it in his life in such a mighty way. But I did know God had used him in a mighty way, not just in my life, but in many. As a new believer, I had about an hour commute to and from work each day. And on that ride the Lord discipled me. He sent quite the crew, there was Woodrow Kroll, Elizabeth Elliot, and Ravi Zacharias to name a few. It was a special time of learning and growing and I remember it well. When Ravi Zacharias would come on, I had to really focus on what he was saying. I had never heard someone speak in such a way. I thought wow, this guy is super smart! And he was. He dove deep into the scriptures, but he also dove deep into the minds and thoughts of his listeners. He made me think about what I believed and challenged me to think about what I was being taught and why I believed what I believed. That was twenty years ago. I only recently discovered he had attempted suicide as a young man and thankfully, was unsuccessful.
“… Ravi Zacharias, recovering in a Delhi hospital from a suicide attempt at age 17, was read the words of Jesus recorded in the Bible by the apostle John: “Because I live, you will also live.” In response, Zacharias surrendered his life to Christ and offered up a prayer that if he emerged from the hospital, he would leave no stone unturned in his pursuit of truth.”
I’m so thankful that the Lord not only spared his life, but gave him new life in Christ. A life he used well, and one he now lives with his Savior, as promised!
The Lord bless you…

This Week’s Verse to Memorize: Now when they saw the boldness of Peter and John, and perceived that they were uneducated and untrained men, they marveled. And they realized that they had been with Jesus. –Acts 4:13
