Are You Ready?

“Be dressed ready for service and keep your lamps burning,” Luke 12:35 NIV
In Jesus’ day, the Galileans had a very special way of celebrating a wedding. The bridegroom took such delight in getting all preparations together for the ceremony. The bridegroom would work continual to make this very special day perfect for his bride. Once preparations were all complete, he then would patiently wait on his father’s instructions to go get his bride.
As the bridegroom prepared, the bride was to wait expectedly for her love. She was to be dressed in her wedding gown. She would wait day and night for her future husband to come knocking on her door. She was to keep the oil in her lamp burning every night, making sure she could see her way if and when he arrived. Once the bridegroom was able to get his bride, they would return to the father’s house and celebrate.
Now, that is a beautiful story on how a wedding was to take place. Put that in perspective for our lives Saints. Jesus is our bridegroom, waiting in Heaven to be ordered by the Father to come get his bride, the church. We are to be ready every single moment of every single day, dressed in His holiness and in obedience to His Word. God calls us to live a life of holiness. The lamp burning is a picture of our readiness and vigilance. In Exodus 27 verse 20, he commanded the people to bring pure oil for the light to keep the lamps burning continually. Pure oil meaning holiness. Is your life reflecting the holiness of God? Is your heart set on the expectation on Jesus’ return at any moment? Is your life dressed in obedience to His will? There is a deep urgency today to get our hearts right with the Lord and wait expectedly for our bridegroom to return. “Search me, O God, and know my heart, Try me, and know my anxieties; and see if there is any wicked way in me, and lead me in the way everlasting.” Psalm 139:23-24.
Dear Saints, humble yourself before the Mighty throne of our Lord. Repent, turn from our sins and give your life to the Father above.
