A Penny For Your Thoughts…

Finally, brothers and sisters, whatever is true, whatever is noble, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is admirable—if anything is excellent or praiseworthy—think about such things. (Philippians 4:8 NIV)

“Perspective” is a word that keeps coming up over and over in my devotions. I keep hearing that in order to see a different perspective sometimes you just need to get up and move.  So at one point, I took that literally.  One day when I was having a down day, while I was sitting at home, I got up and changed seats in my living room. This might seem silly but it was amazing how getting up and moving gave me a new perspective! This might only be a different look in my room but emotionally I could feel the change too.

A few weeks ago while I was at church, the pastor held up a penny and referred to it as the problem that we might be dwelling on.  To make his point clear he held up a quarter, a tennis ball, a basketball and then finally he rolled in a life-sized beach ball. All along he said “our problem” is probably the size of a penny but as we forget to give it to the Lord it turns into something bigger than life.

What are you dwelling on these days?  The Lord tells us what to think on in Philippians. He tells us to think on what is true, noble, right, pure, etc.  Getting up and moving and making a change in your life such as this can clear the cobwebs in our brains. Grabbing hold of God’s promises and remembering to think on God’s truths will change your life. Turn your “penny thoughts” over to Him instead of allowing them to become a giant beach ball.

Challenge yourself to get up and move positions; change your thought-pattern today. Remind yourself about what you need to think on. Do not focus on the negative… claim God’s truths.
