Put On Put Off Part 4

Posted on June 1, 2020 by Catey Stover in Freedom Fighters

For this very reason, make every effort to add to your faith goodness; and to goodness, knowledge; and to knowledge, self-control; and to self-control, perseverance; and to perseverance, godliness; and to godliness, mutual affection; and to mutual affection, love. For if you possess these qualities in increasing measure, they will keep you from being ineffective and unproductive in your knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ. 2 Peter 1:5-8

Thanks for your encouragement and support of our Freedom Fighter ministry.

This list is a bit more difficult, isn’t it? It is interesting how our world has turned upside down. Things on this list that are pretty clear from Scripture have been politicized, and some of these things have been given new names to make them seem more correct.

There are things that you and grew up with that were stupid man-made rules. Dr. Charles Zimmerman illustrates this from three concentric circles.

The middle circle is ABSOLUTES. The next outer circle is CONVICTIONS, and the next outer circle is PREFERENCES. Sometimes we turn our preferences into convictions, and then try to make them absolutes.

But God’s Word is direct and leaves no wiggle room. Sometimes we attempt to justify the reason we can do some things because we are “under grace” vs. I need to do this or not do this out of obedience to God’s Word, not man’s interpretation.

Are there things on this last list that are areas where you and God need to do business? As you read it was the Holy Spirit nudging you? Well God never tires of new beginnings. Start today walking in the Spirit = walking in victory!

Have a great week.

Think About This: “Ephesus forgot their love for Christ. Pergamum entertained false teaching. Thyatira tolerated sin. Sardis was spiritually dead. Laodicea became self-righteous. Churches that were just years away from the ascension of Christ. We can’t let down our guard for one minute!”- Dustin Benge
