My Rescue Story

“Now it happened, as I journeyed and came near Damascus at about noon, Suddenly a great light from heaven shone around me.” Acts 22:6

Do you remember your story? Every Believer has one, it is your “Rescue Story”. I appreciate the Apostle Paul’s explanation of his redemption, “Now it happened, as I journeyed and came near Damascus at about noon, suddenly a great light from heaven shone around me”. It was a moment that Paul never forgot about, it was his Rescue Story.

I find that the further I get away from that moment the further I get away from the gratitude for God’s grace. There seems to be this disconnect that occurs when I become just a Christian and leave out the Redemptive story that made that happen. There is a sub-conscience clock that ticks before I sit down to write a Freedom Fighter. It can become a task instead of a testimony. I want my thoughts and actions to be fueled by “My Rescue Story”. I don’t have to tell my story every time, but when it’s on the forefront of my mind it seems to filter the grace of God in everything I do.

Do you think of your salvation as being rescued? One of my favorite sayings is “God doesn’t make bad people good, He makes dead people alive” Ravi Zacharias. That’s my story, I can read that I was “Dead in my trespasses and sins” but until it becomes a reality, I’m only a shell instead of a vessel.

Here’s another thought, where would we be without Him? I had a friend in the Colony that would always pray the same prayer, “You plucked us out of the muck and mire, cleaned us up and placed us on a mantle, like a trophy, in the house of the Lord”, may I never forget. Paul never forgot that, he would often tell those that questioned his motives about his conversion, instead of giving his educational resume, he simply said, “Suddenly a great light from heaven shone around me”. It is important for us to never forget, our energy comes from that moment, before we knew a thing, but we immediately knew Him.

I know there are some days that we may feel like we’re dredging through that muck and mire, but the truth is, we’ve been rescued. Maybe these thoughts will carry you through a troubled time or be the boost you need to go out and live your faith. Either way, never forget your “Rescue Story”. Amen!
