“I Wish I Hadn’t Done That”

“Therefore know this day, and consider it in your heart, that the LORD Himself is God in heaven above and on the earth beneath; there is no other.” Deuteronomy 4:39

“I wish I hadn’t done that” is a term that has crossed my mind more then once. How many wrong decisions does it take to make a right one? None, if we are God focused and Spirit lead then we never have to make a wrong decision again. Welcome back to planet Earth, it’s obviously not that easy, but possible.

Some of the most toxic thoughts that can hinder our walk are along the lines of, “Well, nobody is perfect” or “Everyone makes mistakes”. Which are true, but the danger is when we confess that without finishing the thought, “Except God”, we can put ourselves in a defeated mind set.

Moses spends a good amount of time trying to prepare the Children of Israel for their next journey. He does this after he is told by God that he will not be going into the promised land. He probably had a few “I wish I hadn’t done that” moments. The call for obedience and absents of idols seems to be paramount. In this epic speech it would have been a little awkward for someone to shout out, “Well, no one is perfect”.

God is perfect, I think that is the point. When we lower the standards and expectations of our thoughts and actions without the admission of a perfect God, we accept failure. “Therefore, know this day, and consider it in your heart, that the LORD Himself is God in heaven above and on the earth beneath; there is no other.” “LORD God, Master who is Creator, our identity is in the One who is above all. Our imperfection is covered when we acknowledge our weakness with the understanding that our confession and repentance is a propitiation or appeasing to God.

The bottom line is our need to consider our actions because we know “That the LORD Himself is God in heaven above and on the earth beneath; there is no other”. It’s not about our frailty but His power in us. One day we will walk alongside our God, it will be a glorious day. We will walk with heads held high, no because of us, but because of

“The LORD Himself is God in heaven above and on

the earth beneath, there is no other”.

Amen!
