When the Going Gets Tough….

The going will get tough. Jesus said so. Funny, I just don’t wake up thinking like that. Maybe if I expected the troubles of the day I’d be less surprised by them!
We shouldn’t be, but we are often blindsided by events. It doesn’t really seem natural for us to walk around wondering when the proverbial ax is going to fall, so when it does, it comes as a surprise. And yet, Jesus was clear about the day having enough trouble of its own.
The steadfast promises of God can counteract the unexpected troubles of the day. Knowing that the God of the universe is not surprised by what is unsettling should settle us. His promises do not fail in the face of trial and tribulation. He is trustworthy, when all else is not.
Because of the Lord’s great love we are not consumed, for his compassions never fail. They are new every morning; great is Your faithfulness. Lamentations 3:22&23
When the going gets tough, we as daughters of the Most High King do not need to “get going”. We can rest at the feet of our Father, knowing that He holds our lives in His most kind and capable hands. That should put the troubles of the day into perspective so that we can do as our Savior said:
“Therefore I tell you, do not worry about your life, what you will eat or drink; or about your body, what you will wear. Is not life more than food, and the body more than clothes? Look at the birds of the air: They do not sow or reap or gather into barns–and yet your Heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not much more valuable than they? Who of you by worrying can add a single hour to his lifespan?” Matt. 6:25-27
