What’s Next?

So Abram went, as the Lord had told him…Genesis 12:4

And he said to them, “Follow me, and I will make you fishers of men.” Immediately they left their nets and followed him. Mt 4:19-20

And Simon answered, “Master, we toiled all night and took nothing! But at your word I will let down the nets.” Luke 5:5

 

Each of these Scripture express the heart of faith of a person taking God at His word, trusting and obeying.

When God speaks to you, whatever you do next reveals what you really believe about God. – Henry Blackaby[i]

What a powerful statement.  When God speaks to our hearts – obedience flows from our belief that God has spoken and that what He calls us to do He will also empower us to do.  “…work out your own salvation with fear and trembling, for it is God who works in you, both to will and to work for his good pleasure.” Philippians 2:12-13

Our obedience is an act of faith, believing He is true to His word.  It is so much more that merely knowing God’s word, but also believing it and believing, living it out.

Our obedience or lack-there-of is evidence of our belief or our unbelief.

It’s not enough to know God’s word. It’s not enough to say we believe. It’s not enough to know what God commands or directs us to do. It’s not enough to know what we should do. It’s not enough to talk about obedience. It is in the doing and obeying that a heart of faith is proved.

…be absolutely certain in your mind about the things that are vital, and the moment you are certain of them, put them into practice. – Martyn Lloyd-Jones[ii] (underlining mine)

What’s next after God speaks to us?  Either belief leading to obedience or unbelief leading to disobedience.  Which shall we choose?
