Welcome Home

This past week I went to America’s Keswick.  There is a sign that greets everyone as you enter.  It says, “Welcome Home.”  And, it really does feel like you are entering your home.  Friends that feel like family are there to greet you.  There are times of fun, laughter, spiritual growth, and great singing.

It made me wonder – when we go to heaven, will we see a sign like that?  We will sure feel like we are home.  Jesus promised that He is preparing a place for us, a home (John 14: 1-3.) I can hear Father saying, “Welcome home, my dear child.”  We will meet Jesus face to face!  We will have reunions with family and friends.

Heaven is so beautiful, we cannot even imagine how beautiful it is.  Paul and John did not have the words to describe it.  We do know a few things, though.  Revelation 21 says that there will be no sadness, and no pain.  God will make everything new.  The best phrase for me is when God says that He will be our God and we will be His sons and daughters.  We are in God’s family now, but then the fellowship will be complete.  The following song came to mind when I was pondering on these things.

“This World Is Not My Home” by Jim Reeves:

This world is not my home
I’m just a-passing through
My treasures are laid up
Somewhere beyond the blue.

The angels beckon me
From heaven’s open door
And I can’t feel at home
In this world anymore.

Oh Lord, you know
I have no friend like you
If heaven’s not my home
Then Lord what will I do.

The angels beckon me
From heaven’s open door
And I can’t feel at home
In this world anymore.

I have a loving mother
Just up in Gloryland
And I don’t expect to stop
Until I shake her hand.

She’s waiting now for me
In heaven’s open door
And I can’t feel at home
In this world anymore.

Oh Lord, you know
I have no friend like you
If heaven’s not my home
Then Lord what will I do.

The angels beckon me
From heaven’s open door
And I can’t feel at home
In this world anymore.

Just over in Gloryland
We’ll live eternally
The saints on every hand
Are shouting victory.

Their songs of sweetest praise
Drift back from heaven’s shore
And I can’t feel at home
In this world anymore.

Oh Lord, you know
I have no friend like you
If heaven’s not my home
Then Lord what will I do.

The angels beckon me
From heaven’s open door
And I can’t feel at home
In this world anymore…
