Victory Call-Remedy for Anxiety

Posted on April 23, 2019 by America's Keswick in Victory Call

A few weeks ago, there was a quote in our church’s bulletin.  It said, “Anxiety does not empty tomorrow of its sorrows but only empties today of its strength.”  That hit me right between the eyes.  With all the verses in the Bible about anxiety, you would think that we as Christians would not worry about anything.

What is the opposite of anxiety?  I think it is trust, trusting God to take care of everything.  There is a verse in Matthew (6:33) that many people know and there is even a song about it, “Seek ye first the kingdom of God and His righteousness and all these things will be added to you.”  I read that verse in context a while back and that gave it new meaning to me.

Jesus asks some questions and states some truths.  He says, “Stop worrying about food and clothes.”  Then He asks, “Is not life more than food and clothes?  God provides food for the birds.  Are you not worth more than they are?”  He is saying that since God provides for the birds and you are more important than they are, He will provide for you, also.  He asks a rhetorical question next, “Can anyone add an hour to their life by worrying about it?”  We probably lose hours of our life by worrying about it.  He asks, “Why are you worried about clothing?  Look at how the lilies of the field make it look so beautiful.  They are more beautiful than any clothes Solomon ever used to dress himself.  Since God clothes the grass of the field, which lives only a short time, do you not think God will do the same for you?  God knows that you need all these things.  All these things will be given to you if you seek God and His righteousness first. So, stop worrying about them, trust God to take care of you.”

We have a choice.  Will we keep worrying about material things that God has promised to provide for us and in the process lose our joy and strength, or will we trust His promises and gain His peace?  We will need to make that choice every day, sometimes many times a day.  Choose well.

Think About This: “An unpeaceful mind cannot operate normally. Hence the Apostle teaches us to “have no anxiety about anything” (Phil. 4:6). Deliver all anxious thoughts to God as soon as they arise. Let the peace of God maintain your heart and mind (v. 7).” – Watchman Nee

This Week’s Verse to Memorize: For the love of Christ compels us, because we judge thus: that if One died for all, then all died; and He died for all, that those who live should live no longer for themselves, but for Him who died for them and rose again. – 2 Corinthians 5:14-15
