The Light of a New Life

Posted on June 13, 2017 by Graeme Wilson in Victory Call

Here at America’s Keswick, we have had one topic that has been dominating all other conversations lately… baby chat. Two of our staff couples just had babies, and we’re just so excited about the new little additions to our “Keswick Family.”

I was having a conversation with one of my coworkers and dear friends, and she shared the most interesting thing with me… something that scientists had just learned not too long ago. Did you know that the moment a baby is conceived, a flash of light goes off around the cells?
I thought that was so cool, and I knew there was a Victory Call in there. There is a light that goes off when there is new life… isn’t that so symbolic of us when we find new life in Christ and a little light goes off for us as well?
Scripture has a lot to say about light. John 8:12 says When Jesus spoke again to the people, he said, “I am the light of the world. Whoever follows me will never walk in darkness, but will have the light of life.”
Jesus calls us to be “lights” too when we trust in Him. Matthew 5:14-16 says You are the light of the world. A city set on a hill cannot be hidden. Nor do people light a lamp and put it under a basket, but on a stand, and it gives light to all in the house. In the same way, let your light shine before others, so that they may see your good works and give glory to your father who is in heaven.
I think it’s pretty cool that Jesus describes himself as the Light of the World and call us “Lights of the World” as well (through His help of course, because apart from Him we can do nothing.) We are called to reflect HIS light in our lives. When we experience new life in Christ, a light goes off in our hearts, we trust in the Light of the World, and we are called the Lights of the World ourselves as we strive to reflect Him in how we live. He is so cool!
