And if the blind lead the blind, both will fall into a pit. Matthew 15:14
I had to chuckle. There they were, two girls about 10 or 11 years old walking down the sidewalk together holding on tightly to one another – bumping into each other and stumbling as they went. Did I mention they were BOTH blindfolded and one had a stick that she was swinging around more like a machete than a walking stick? Talk about the blind leading the blind.
They reminded me of us sometimes. When we lack direction, where do we go?
Do we seek godly counsel or advice from someone just as blind as we are? We have all heard stories (and perhaps this is your own story) in which non-believing friends and believing friends have encouraged a woman to divorce her husband for any number of reasons. Not all advice from believers is godly advice.
Blessed is the (wo)man who walks not in the counsel of the wicked, nor stands in the way of sinners, nor sits in the seat of scoffers… Psalm 1:1 (parenthesis mine)
Do we dig into God’s word asking for His counsel and direction for our lives?
If any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask God, who gives generously to all without reproach, and it will be given him. James 1:5
And I will lead the blind in a way that they do not know, in paths that they have not known I will guide them. I will turn the darkness before them into light, the rough places into level ground. These are the things I do, and I do not forsake them. Isaiah 42:16
Do we seek out a person with a reputation for wisdom and godly character? A friend? A deacon? A Bible study teacher? A Pastor? — Even if we may not want to hear what they have to say?
Do we hold their counsel up to the filter of God’s word? If the advice contradicts God’s word in any area we need to be wary that it is truly godly advice. Be cautious of using a verse here or there out of the context. Consider the whole counsel of God’s word (see Acts 20:27).
Sisters, let us walk together with our eyes wide open. When there is a season in which we are blind let us cling to another who can clearly see. Sometimes we are the guided and sometimes we are the guide. Truly our greatest companion when we can’t see is Jesus Himself who is our trustworthy Guide.
For you are my rock and my fortress; and for your name’s sake you lead me and guide me… Psalm 31:3

This Week’s Verse to Memorize: “Therefore, since we are receiving a kingdom which cannot be shaken, let us have grace, by which we may serve God acceptably with reverence and godly fear. 29 For our God is a consuming fire.” Hebrews 12:28-29
