National Day of Prayer

The first Thursday of May is the National Day of Prayer. I love this day. It definitely rates as one of my favorite days of the year. This year was no different and yet it was a particular blessing.

In our township of West Milford the new township coordinator decided to erect a tent. What a perfect plan. We gathered there at noon and were shaded from the hot sun. We gathered in the evening and were protected from the rain as we lifted our prayers for government, church, education, arts and media, business and the family. The theme for the National Day of Prayer this year was: Pray for America – UNITY, based upon Ephesians 4:3, which challenges us to mobilize, unified public prayer for America, “Making every effort to keep the unity of the Spirit through the bond of peace.”

In the evening the pastor who opened prayer read from Daniel 10:12-13. “Then he said to me, ‘Do not fear, Daniel, for from the first day that you set your heart to understand, and to humble yourself before your God, your words were heard; and I have come because of your words. But the prince of the kingdom of Persia withstood me twenty-one days; and behold, Michael, one of the chief princes, came to help me, for I had been left alone there with the kings of Persia.”

Pastor challenged us to prayer boldly, so that God would be free to act as in the time of Daniel’s prayer. He explained that the prince of the kingdom of Persia was the prince of darkness. The Lord has released Michael, the archangel but he had to do battle in the heavenlies with kings of Persia. So likely there were several princes of darkness. Because Daniel pressed on in prayer the Lord then released a chief among the angels to help Michael. The battle won, Michael was now free to complete his assignment and attend to the prayers of Daniel. Pastor encouraged us to press on in prayer.

With that, a young handicapped girl among us yelled out. Her mother said, “She is shouting out because she asked God to give us a rainbow and He did.” We were all in awe as we looked up at a most beautiful rainbow. We all knew it meant that God was reminding us that He is our God and He keeps His promises. Dear one, He who promises is faithful. (Psalm 36:5)

Truly the church came together in unity and sought God with all our heart and soul and He blessed us.

“But from there you will seek the LORD your God, and you will find Him if you seek Him with all your heart and with all your soul.” (Deut. 4:29)

Our prayers went to a new level. We worshiped and prayed believing that our God is able to do exceedingly, abundantly, far more than we could ever ask or think. (Eph. 3:21) Blessed be His name. (Ps 72:19)

Blessings to you and yours,
