Making Time to be Still

“Be still and know that I am God” Psalm 46:10

A special friend gave me a book called “REFRESH – A Spa for your Soul.” I know this friend hears the Lord because it was just what I needed at this time in my life, especially with the way I’ve been feeling lately. Now I’m not to far in the book, but I wanted to share with you something from the book that I believe we all need to practice at least weekly.

I know as women we are very busy and have so much on our plates. We sometimes lose ourselves and feel stressed and drained. This is not how our Father wanted our life to be. Yes, most of us find a little time to be with Father but it just doesn’t seem to be enough.

It’s hard to take time away from the business of life and the demands of a family to just BE STILL.

Well I too have that problem, but as I started reading the book I tried something. In the book it suggested taking a bath (which I can’t do, as I don’t have a bathtub) and at first I thought “That’s it, I can’t get what I desperately want and need.” But I really needed to be alone and hear God and just listen to and feel Him. I needed to soak in His presence and be filled with His peace. I needed to be able to feel that refreshment of my soul that I so long for. I will share what I did and a promise I made to my Father and to myself. I hope this inspires you to do the same or find what will work for you, please remember no one can drink from an empty cup, so if you don’t get what you need God can’t use you to help others.

Monday is my day for now. Ray and Nick go to bible study at Keswick. So I start to get ready before they leave. I get my candles all ready and placed where I want them, but I don’t light them. I shower and get comfortable. For me showering is getting all the yuck and distractions of the day off of me. After they leave, I light all the candles, turn out the lights, put instrumental quiet music on, and just relax. I clear my mind and ask the Lord to speak to me.

Now it wasn’t easy at first to let go of my thoughts; it took a while. I then was able to just be still. After a while I read some scripture and journaled what the Lord ways saying to me. I made a cup of tea and still with no lights on just the candles I just started thanking Him for who He is, and I rested in His presence. I can honestly tell you I feel so much peace. It was the best thing I have done for myself in a long time.

So ladies, however it looks for you, find a quiet place at least once a week to just be still. If it isn’t possible at home, maybe you and a girlfriend can do it at her house. This is not a suggestion from
God, it is a command. He knows this is what we need. I pray this helps you all.

God bless
Robbin
