Let’s Not Talk Politics

Feb_LWL Postcard 2016
“GOD takes the wind out of Babel pretense; he shoots down the world’s power-schemes.
GOD’s plan for the world stands up, all his designs are made to last.
Blessed is the country with GOD for God; blessed are the people he’s put in his will.
From high in the skies GOD looks around, he sees all Adam’s brood.
From where he sits he overlooks all us earth-dwellers.
He has shaped each person in turn; now he watches everything we do.
No king succeeds with a big army alone; no warrior wins by brute strength.
Horsepower is not the answer; no one gets by on muscle alone.
Watch this: God’s eye is on those who respect him, the ones who are looking for his love.
He’s ready to come to their rescue in bad times; in lean times he keeps body and soul together.
We’re depending on GOD; he’s everything we need.
What’s more, our hearts brim with joy since we’ve taken for our own his holy name.
Love us, GOD, with all you’ve got— that’s what we’re depending on.”
Psalm 33:10-22 The Message

I know this is a season of polls, debates and nominations. Right now we cannot watch the news or listen to the radio without getting an update on the presidential race. Am I concerned about this nation? Do I have the right to vote? Am I allowed my opinion? Yes. But I fear that in the days ahead we will get consumed by following politics (if we aren’t already). My concern is that we will be focused on getting the “right” person in office. Greater still, my concern is that you and I might look to a president or any other elected official to be our savior. We need a leader but only Jesus is our Savior. Let’s not talk politics. Let’s talk about who really is in charge. Let’s count on the promises that will not be broken. Let’s know and understand that God may use our elected officials to bring us to repentance. Let’s remember that He appoints the authorities over us.
I am concerned about who I will vote for this year. I am confident that God already knows and that He writes history. I am concerned about the economy. I am confident of His provision. I am concerned about the future of this country. I am confident of my future in Him. My prayer is that you and I will find our hope, provision, and all the things that are necessary for life, are really provided through Jesus alone.

Blessings, Kathy
