Yikes… winter is here. ❄️ My sincerest apologies to winter people, but I’m not one of you… I’ll take the sunshine over the snow any day. Some people think I’m crazy because I actually enjoy what others would call “oppressively hot weather.” It’s mostly because I like the beach, and it’s always 15° chillier at the beach.
I just don’t like how restrictive winter is. You go outside in a coat you can’t move in, and wherever you go, you’re stuck with it. You can’t do much outside because of the frigid air, and you can’t travel because of ice and snow. Not to mention, it’s so dark during this time of year nobody really goes out anyway. Is my extroverted personality showing?
Here’s what I do find beautiful about winter though… it makes the seasons I do love just that much sweeter. I wouldn’t appreciate the warmth of beach sand if I couldn’t compare it to the snow. I wouldn’t appreciate the late summer nights if I couldn’t compare it to the early winter ones. I wouldn’t appreciate travel so much if I couldn’t compare it to staying in.
This reminds me of the spiritual walk of Christians. We won’t be able to fully appreciate the beauty and purity of Jesus until we compare it to the wickedness and ugliness of sin. Likewise, when we recognize our state of powerlessness – that we can’t do anything to help or save ourselves, it makes Jesus’ sacrifice so much more significant. Apart from Christ, we can do nothing (John 15:5).
This life is fragile, but God and His love is insurmountable. How is the beauty of Jesus real in your life? How has He demonstrated His perfect and sovereign nature to you lately?
“The law of Moses was unable to save us because of the weakness of our sinful nature. So God did what the law could not do. He sent his own Son in a body like the bodies we sinners have. And in that body God declared an end to sin’s control over us by giving his Son as a sacrifice for our sins.” – Romans 8:3

Think About This: “There is no neutral ground in the universe. Every square inch, every split second is claimed by God, and counterclaimed by Satan.” – C. S. Lewis
