A Simple Truth

For in Christ Jesus neither circumcision nor uncircumcision counts for anything, but only faith working through love. Galatians 5:6

One evening, in small group, one of the men mentioned his favorite verse in the entire Bible was Galatians 5:6.  I was curious about that. I’ve heard a lot of favorite verses over the years, but never Galatians 5:6.

When I asked him why this was his favorite he responded, “Because you can put anything in the verse instead of circumcision or uncircumcision and the statement is still true.”

For in Christ Jesus neither reading your Bible nor not reading your Bible counts for anything, but only faith working through love.

For in Christ Jesus neither tithing nor not tithing counts for anything, but only faith working through love.

For in Christ Jesus neither going on a mission trip nor not going on a missions trip counts for anything, but only faith working through love.

For in Christ Jesus neither going to church nor not going to church counts for anything, but only faith working through love.

For in Christ Jesus neither _________ nor ________ counts for anything, but only faith working through love. Fill in the blank with any of those things we do to earn God’s favor or earn our salvation – none of it, none of it counts for anything in Christ Jesus.

So whose works are you trusting in for your salvation?  Your works or Jesus’ work?  A faith mixed between the two is negates the true Gospel.

Only Jesus counts for anything, in fact Jesus counts for everything.

That man was right; it is a great verse.

For in Christ Jesus neither circumcision nor uncircumcision counts for anything, but only faith working through love. Galatians 5:6

Diane

Think About This: God does not love men that are inconstant, nor good works that are intermitted. Nothing is pleasing to him, but what has a resemblance of his own immutability. – John Wesley
