You Have My Word on It!

In this day and age, character is more important than ever. Weather it is in school, home, work and even in Church. If your words can not be trusted, even for the smallest of details, people will avoid you like the plague.

Simply stated in Matthew 5:37 and James 5:12, “Your yes is yes and your no is no.” When we make a commitment or promise to someone or something, we need to keep it. Our character is on the line! Sure, there are times when an emergency occurs that is unavoidable, but what about those times when your “not feeling it” or someone made you a better offer? Yes, it’s a tricky situation when we get into helping others without receiving something in return. I’ve been in those situations where I always thought, “What’s in it for me?” Or “You’ll owe me down the road.”

Relationships shouldn’t be based on what I can get out of it. They should only be based on what I can give OF myself. The last 9 years of my life have taught me more about giving and less about taking. It has made me realize that it’s not about “ME,” but about others. And I’m glad to give my time, or resources, freely to those that are or are not close to me. I’ve learned to stop doing what I’m doing, if possible, and listen to someone that needs to get something off there chest or just feeling a little down and needs a quick prayer or encouragement.

Jesus stopped often to help those that needed it. In Luke 8, Jarius pleaded with Jesus to come save his daughter from dying, but on the way through the crowds, a woman touched him ever-so-slightly and was healed instantly. He turned to the women and said in verses 48, “Daughter, he said to her, your faith has saved you, go in peace.”

Wouldn’t it be great if more of us could just take that extra minute out our day to make someone’s day just a bit happier. Trust me I’m not saying we have the power to heal, but maybe that seed that you plant can have an everlasting effect on that person.

The next time I’m asked to give a little of myself, I pray I can say with confidence, you have my word on it!

Written by Robert Breault: Robert was blessed to work 8 years in the Keswick Raws kitchen and is now retired, well, almost. He’s a loving husband to Shirley, a wicked stepfather to Shirley’s three “Angels”/children, and a doting Pop-Pop to their two grandchildren, Charlotte and Max. But most important, he is a child of the one true King!

Think About This:  “When we dwell on God’s provision, His promises, His presence, authentic joy is the natural overflow, which inspires us to praise and worship Him through our hardships. In so doing, we can experience His peace through any circumstance.” ― Kim Meeder

This Week’s Verse to Memorize:  24 And let us consider one another in order to stir up love and good works, 25 not forsaking the assembling of ourselves together, as is the manner of some, but exhorting one another, and so much the more as you see the Day approaching.” – Hebrews 10:24-25
