What Are You Believing?

“Now Jesus did many other signs in the presence of the disciples, which are not written in this book; but these are written so that you may believe that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of God, hand that by believing you may have life in his name.” (John 20:30,31)
As God continues to show his faithfulness in my life and the lives of people around me, there is a great amount of gratitude that follows. Even in the trials, His glory is manifested.
However, I have spent many times doubting and worrying about situations that were out my control, or were of little value. My past, my failures, the enemy, people, all of these have a way of reminding me of how little I have to offer. I’ve spent many hours beating myself up that I didn’t have much left for others to finish me off. “Is this all worth it? I’m not this, I’m not that, I’m not Him.” The lies never end.
But God in the midst these lies supplies truth to combat the deceptions of the enemy, the alluring compromises of the world, the deceitfulness of our flesh, etc…
Here are 3 common lies that believers, believe.
- Our Identity is what we do, and not in who we are.
“But you are a chosen people, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, God’s special possession, that you may declare the praises of him who called you out of darkness into his wonderful light.” (1 Peter 2:9)
- Believing past hurts or failures
“For whoever lacks these qualities is so nearsighted that he is blind, having forgotten that he was cleansed from his former sins. (2 Peter 1:9)
- False doctrine
“O foolish Galatians, who hath bewitched you, that ye should not obey the truth, before whose eyes Jesus Christ hath been evidently set forth, crucified among you? This only would I learn of you, Received ye the Spirit by the works of the law, or by the hearing of faith? Are ye so foolish? having begun in the Spirit, are ye now made perfect by the flesh?” (Galatians 3:1-3) The Bible has a standard that we shouldn’t corrupt.
If believers know the truth about their true indentity, understand that they are healed and forgiven by Christ, and rightly divide God’s word, the church would experience revival and God will be glorified. What lies are you believing or what are you believing?

Daily Quote: “Many deceptions only appeal to us because there is something inside us that “wants” to believe them. They are seductive because of darkness and wrong motives in our own lives. We must search our hearts and root these out.”– Andrew Strom
This Week’s Verse to Memorize:
Uphold me according to Your word, that I may live; And do not let me be ashamed of my hope. Psalm 119:116
