All Scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness, that the man of God may be complete, thoroughly equipped for every good work. 2 Timothy 3:16-17
I am becoming a dinosaur. LOL. Welcome to a new week of Freedom Fighter blogs. I am thankful for all of you who read what we write each week. And all of us appreciate your comments, even when you disagree with us. 😊
I recently added “Words of Wisdom” back into my morning quiet time routine. This is a tool that the Billy Graham team produced. It is ALL Scripture from the Psalms and Proverbs. If you read it every day for twelve months, you will read the entire books of Psalms and Proverbs twelve times.
I am troubled, more and more, at how so many of us are drifting away from reading books about the Bible, more than we actually read the Bible.
We have at our disposal thousands of great books, messages online, podcasts, and social media sound bytes about the Bible. But have we lost the value of reading, memorizing, and meditating on the Bible itself?
Don’t get me wrong. I have a huge library. I listen to lots of messages at America’s Keswick. I listen to some very powerful preachers who have podcasts.
While they are all good things, I can’t neglect reading the Word and allowing the Holy Spirit to teach me from His Word.
I am hearing more and more preachers use the phrase about not slapping Scripture onto the issues of my life and expect it to help me with my problems and the issues I face in my life. Really?
For anyone who is a student of the WORD, that should send up major red flags. The Bible DOES speak to the issues of our hearts. It addressed the problems we face in our lives. Nothing makes the enemy of our soul happier than to have God’s children move away from the reading of God’s Word.
The reading for Day 16 was from Psalm 119. The question the Psalmist asks is how can a young person stay pure? That is a question that every red-blooded man could ask. The answer is very simple – “by obeying Your Word.” Note it didn’t say reading your favorite Bible teacher.
In that particular statement on purity I noted the following principles right from the text:
“Don’t let me wander from my commandments.” (119:10) When we are living in sin and not obeying, if we are really honest, isn’t that when reading God’s Word is something we don’t do?
David says:
I have HIDDEN Your Word in my heart that I might not sin against you. (119:13)
I PRAISE YOU, O Lord; teach me YOUR decrees. (119:14)
I have RECITED ALOUD all the regulations You have given us. 119:13)
I have REJOICED in Your laws as much as in riches. (119:14)
I will STUDY Your commandments and reflect on Your ways. (119:15)
I will DELIGHT in your decrees and not forget Your Word. (119:16)
What I am NOT saying is that you should not read Christian commentaries.
What I am NOT saying is that you should not read Christian books.
What I am NOT saying is that you should not be listening to great men of God preach, whether it be on Christian radio, podcasts, or social media.
What I AM saying is that we ought not to neglect the WORD OF GOD. We need to get BACK TO THE BIBLE and allow the Holy Spirit to use the Word to do all the things Paul wrote about in 1 Timothy 3:16-17
I’d love to challenge you to read a section of Psalm 119 over the next thirty days. And I’d love it even more to hear what God will teach you from this ONE Psalm. You can email me at bwelte@americaskeswick.org

This Week’s Verse to Memorize: “Therefore we also, since we are surrounded by so great a cloud of witnesses, let us lay aside every weight, and the sin which so easily ensnares us, and let us run with endurance the race that is set before us, 2 looking unto Jesus, the author and finisher of our faith, who for the joy that was set before Him endured the cross, despising the shame, and has sat down at the right hand of the throne of God.” Hebrews 12:1-2
