The Good Fight

Good morning, brothers (and sisters). Trust you are ready for a great week.

I came across a great book, Endless Grace, which is a book of prayers inspired by the Psalms. I want to share with you the prayer I just read, which is based on Psalm 83.

The Good Fight
Spirit of God, who is my enemy?
My dust-born brother? Spirit-born sister?
What field of battle awaits me?
What weapons of war?
What bloodshed?
What sorrow?

Is the enemy of my soul not all that stands against You— evil in all its guises, shameless in its conquest; a marauding, desecrating darkness? My fight is not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, powers, forces of evil.

What foe awaits me? What adversary plots my destruction? Forgive me when I make my enemies Your enemies; when I turn my prayers toward the defeat of those named only by me. Your foes are more fierce, more insidious, than any human face set against me.

May I stand fast against all that stands against You. May I turn inward to face the darkness at work within— that I may be wholehearted,

free from the bondage of sin.

Who is my enemy, Lord? Who would snuff me out? Rob the life from my spirit? Does evil not go by many names? Accusation. Hatred. Despair. Chaos. Arrogance. Unfaithfulness. Fear. Pride.

Fill me with Your Spirit, that I may have the strength to withstand, to vanquish terror and temptation— to partner with You in the undoing of the works of darkness.

May I be called Blessing. Joy Giver. Shalom Bearer. Faithful Friend. Cruciform Soul.

To be like You, Lord Jesus, is my deepest desire: to abide in You, walk with You— Your truth about my waist, Your righteousness about my heart, feet propelled by the ready proclamation of Your Gospel, head covered in the helmet of Your salvation, sword of the Spirit in one hand, shield of faith in the other.

In Your strength, may I scatter darkness, conquer wickedness. Let all that stands against You be utterly consumed: a forest razed by fire, a hovel flattened by wind. May all who resist You crawl to the foot of Your cross and there lay down their arms.

In Your mercy, may they be enemies no more.10 1.  1 Tim. 6:12. 2.  Eph. 6:12. 3.  Ps. 86:11. 4.  Gal. 5:1. 5.  Rev. 12:10. 6.  1 John 3:8. 7.  Eph. 5:1–2. 8.  John 15:4–5. 9.  Eph. 6:13–17. 10.  Matt. 5:44.

I thought this was a timely prayer for where we are in our world, in our nation, and unfortunately for some, even in our churches.

Have a blessed day!

Think About This:  If you look for me wholeheartedly, you will find me (Jeremiah 29:13, emphasis added). God is not interested in part of your heart. He desires for you to pursue Him with all your heart. Giving Him only part of your heart is the same as giving Him part of your cancer. The rest of it is still going to kill you.” ― Kim Meeder
