Speculation

“Finally, brethren, whatever things are true.”

“Meditate on these things.”

Philippians 4:8

I use Philippians 4:8 as a re-calibration tool. I know there is also the noble, just, pure, lovely, good report and virtue, but sometimes it’s the “Truth” that has to weed out “Speculation”.

Speculation is something that can take up residence in my mind and cause all kinds of problems. It creates scenarios that lead to unnecessary anxieties and worry. The verses preceding vs 8 are,

Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication, with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God; and the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus”.

I think of my mind as a place where I store stuff, speculation and scenarios can take up space and interfere with my thoughts. If I can focus on what I know to be true and eliminate the possibilities, I can save myself from unnecessary worries.

The best way for me to combat speculation is to have verses memorized and ready to apply in case of an emergency. Having my quiet time with the Lord and reaffirming His love for me is the most important. One truth that is a game changer is, God is for me, He has His best interest in mind no matter what the circumstances.

What then shall we say to these things? If God is for us, who can be against us?”

Who shall separate us from the love of Christ? Shall tribulation, or distress, or persecution, or famine, or nakedness, or peril, or sword?”

Yet in all these things we are more than conquerors through Him who loved us. 3For I am persuaded that neither death nor life, nor angels nor principalities nor powers, nor things present nor things to come, nor height nor depth, nor any other created thing, shall be able to separate us from the love of God which is in Christ Jesus our Lord.”

I pray that today you will be able to weed out “Speculation”, it’s a waste of time and makes it harder to be about our Heavenly Father’s business. Amen!
