“He himself bore our sins in his body on the tree, that we might die to sin and live to righteousness. By his wounds you have been healed.” – 1 Peter 2:24
We had a frightening moment this week when our unborn child, who is usually very active, wasn’t moving. My wife and I pressed, listened, and monitored until we decided it was time to call the doctors. The doctors gave us various instructions, but still no response. Emergency Room! On the way to (and while in) the emergency room, God gave us a sense of peace that everything was going to be okay. After a few hours of observing, the doctor gave us the assurance that everything is okay for now. And we were comforted.
In life, there are many different realities, various opinions, and innumerable theologies… but at the end, the truth is that ‘By His stripes we are healed.’ Ultimate healing, ultimate comfort, can only come from one source. This is essential to all believers; ‘in whom we must be saved.’ Instead of spending all week pondering over who’s right and who’s wrong, maybe it could be beneficial to go back to your first love, first encounter, the moment you knew that you were in Christ and Christ in you.
There is no other mystery that trumps, “For you were like sheep going astray, but now you have returned to the Shepherd and Overseer of your souls.” (1 Peter 2:25) When we were confused, scared, and uncertain about the baby, nothing other than Christ and Christ alone could comfort us. What if we had this at the front our mines at all times? Return to your first love.
