Promise Land Living

In Exodus 3:8, God said to Moses, “I have come down to rescue them from the hand of the Egyptians and to bring them up out of that land into a good and spacious land, a land flowing with milk and honey.”

The Egyptians had enslaved and mistreated the Israelites long enough, and God had a plan. A plan for them to live in the Promised Land that was filled with milk and honey. It’s safe to say that the Promised Land would be filled with and abounding with livestock that would supply the essentials for living, in addition to many other life sustaining resources. This was a reflection of God’s provisions and promise he had for his people.

“For there is no distinction between Jew and Greek; for the same Lord is Lord of all, bestowing his riches on all who call on him.” (Romans 10:12)

So the body of Christ is now grafted in; the chosen, the Holy nation, the spiritual children of grace. What does our Promised Land look like? Is it the glorious afterlife that Jesus promises throughout scripture; is it a land filled with milk and honey; and is it hope, rest, peace, joy, and freedom from life dominating sin, and a new identity?

“I am the door. If anyone enters by me, he will be saved and will go in and out and find pasture. The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy. I came that they may have life and have it abundantly.” (John 10:9,10)

I believe God’s version of the Promised Land living far exceeds our understanding, that includes all the promises in scripture. Abundance from the Lord never comes in a way that contradicts His Word and is not to be confused with prosperity gospel. But there is a life designed for each believer in which Jesus classifies as abundant.
