Praying Powerfully Part II

“But let man and beast be covered with sackcloth, and let them call out mightily to God. Let everyone turn from his evil way and from the violence that is in his hands. (Jonah 3:8)

After Jonah went through his journey of disobedience, in a desperate state, he cries out to God. He acknowledges the glory of the Lord, His graciousness; thankfulness is close to his lips. After that prayer, the Lord now asked him to go to Nineveh; he goes.

Prayer typically precedes repentance or where there is repentance, prayer is presence. For instance, in Acts 2:42 prayer was part of the early church fellowship; the results, “And the Lord added to their number day by day those who were being saved.” Acts 2:47b. Repentance!

In Psalms 51 David, after being confronted with his affair with Bathsheba, he had a moment of deep confession to His God. He cries out, “Have mercy upon me, O God, according to thy loving-kindness: according unto the multitude of thy tender mercies blot out my transgressions. Wash me thoroughly from mine iniquity, and cleanse me from my sin. For I acknowledge my transgressions: and my sin is ever before me. Against thee, thee only, have I sinned, and done this evil in thy sight: that thou mightest be justified when thou speakest, and be clear when thou judgest.” (Psalms 51:1-4) Repentance!

“If you declare with your mouth, “Jesus is Lord,” and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved.” (Romans 10:9) Repentance!

“If my people, who are called by my name, will humble themselves and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven, and I will forgive their sin and will heal their land.” (2 Chronicles 7:14) Repentance!

I don’t believe true repentance is without the power of prayer. It seems to be a prerequisite to the process throughout the scriptures, and in my personal life. Repentance is victorious! Pray!
