Paul’s Words on the Flesh

Last Monday I shared with you about “mastering the flesh.” I want to share with you today what Paul wrote about the flesh. It doesn’t take a rocket scientist to figure out what God wants us to know about the flesh. The Scripture makes it quite clear:

Romans 6: 17-20: But God be thanked that though you were slaves of sin, yet you obeyed from the heart that form of doctrine to which you were delivered. And having been set free from sin, you became slaves of righteousness. I speak in human terms because of the weakness of your flesh. For just as you presented your members as slaves of uncleanness, and of lawlessness leading to more lawlessness, so now present your members as slaves of righteousness for holiness. For when you were slaves of sin, you were free in regard to righteousness.Flesh vs. Spirit

Romans 8: 5: For those who live according to the flesh set their minds on the things of the flesh, but those who live according to the Spirit, the things of the Spirit.

Romans 8: 8: So then, those who are in the flesh cannot please God.

Romans 8: 13: For if you live according to the flesh you will die; but if by the Spirit you put to death the deeds of the body, you will live.

Romans 13: 14: But put on the Lord Jesus Christ, and make no provision for the flesh, to fulfill its lust.

2 Corinthians 7: 1: Therefore, having these promises, beloved, let us cleanse ourselves from all filthiness of the flesh and spirit, perfecting holiness in the fear of God.

Galatians 5: 24: I say then: Walk in the Spirit, and you shall not fulfill the lust of the flesh.

I don’t think I could make it any clearer than that for you. Allow the Holy Spirit to speak to your heart as you read over the above verses. Might be good for us to memorize them as well. I appreciate you, my friends, and thank you for being on the journey with me. – Dr. Bill Welte is President/CEO of America’s Keswick.

Think About This: The thief had nails through both hands, so that he could not work; and a nail through each foot, so that he could not run errands for the Lord; he could not lift a hand or a foot toward his salvation, and yet Christ offered him the gift of God; and he took it. Christ threw him a passport, and took him into Paradise. D L Moody

This Week’s Verse to Memorize: Better is a poor man who walks in his integrity than a rich man who is crooked in his ways. Proverbs 28:6 ESV
