My Dad is Bigger Than Your Dad

“He delivered me from my strong enemy, From those who hated me; For they were too strong for me.” 2nd Samuel 22:18
There wasn’t too much that reassured me more than having a big brother who would protect me. When I was young and would get myself into trouble or got on the wrong side of someone bigger than me, I’d run home hoping my big brother would be there to defend me.
Today, my battles are not physical but emotional and spiritual. I find myself feeling like I’m in the “valley of mis” – misunderstood or have been misrepresented because of a misunderstanding. It’s easy to feel overpowered, outnumbered and alone when standing for something you believe in. I’m grateful that when life’s circumstances try to overtake me, I have an Advocate or Helper that will comfort and or correct me.
You see when my brother would chase the assailants away, he would then turn to me and question my part in the conflict. He’d say, “You must have done something, people don’t just come after you for nothing.”
The record of the song King David sung to the Lord in 2nd Samuel 22 on the day when the LORD had delivered him from the hand of all his enemies, and from the hand of Saul, is a good reminder of the relationship we have with the Lord.
“The LORD is my rock and my fortress and my deliverer;
The God of my strength, in whom I will trust;
My shield and the horn of my salvation,
My stronghold and my refuge;
My Savior, You save me from violence.
I will call upon the LORD, who is worthy to be praised;
So shall I be saved from my enemies.”
I’ve been confronted with a lot of issues that I feel strongly about and when the situation comes to “agree to disagree” I’m able to go to the Lord and have my motives put to the test. I find comfort from a God who deals with me with love and compassion. How great it is to go through life with Someone in your corner, a Fortress and Deliverer.
So, when trouble come at you from the outside, tell the Enemy that “My Dad is bigger than your dad.” Amen
