Jesus is Never Too Busy for the Individual… For You

In Matthew 9, Jesus is eating with tax collectors who were asking Him questions attempting to disparage Him. In the midst of that, Jairus, a synagogue leader, came and knelt before Him and said, “My daughter has just died. But come and put your hand on her, and she will live.” Jesus got up and went with him, and so did his disciples” (verses 18, 19).

Notice that Jesus left the gathering of people and went on a mission. I assume He was focused on His destination and the purpose of His trip. I know there are some people who have a problem with focus. I am not one of them. In fact, when I am on a project or playing a game, I am disturbed when there are distractions.

But “Just then a woman who had been subject to bleeding for twelve years came up behind him and touched the edge of his cloak. She said to herself, ‘If I only touch his cloak, I will be healed.’ Jesus turned and saw her. ‘Take heart, daughter, he said, ‘your faith has healed you.’ And the woman was healed at that moment” (verses 20-22).

In the midst of His “focus” and in the midst of a crowd of walking people, Jesus knew that He had been touched by this woman. He felt compassion on her. He did not tell her to come back later. He stopped what He was doing and healed her. He was interested in an individual amongst the crowd and in the midst of his “mission” to raise the little girl.

“When Jesus entered the synagogue leader’s house and saw the noisy crowd and people playing pipes, he said, ‘Go away. The girl is not dead but asleep.’ But they laughed at him.” (verses 23,24)

This was not the time for the crowd or the distraction. He was interested in the individual.

“After the crowd had been put outside, he went in and took the girl by the hand, and she got up” (verse 25).

Jesus is interested in you-as an individual. All the time. Every place. He never slumbers nor sleeps (Psalm 121:4). You are of more value than the sparrow (Matt. 10:31). Jesus loves you. Love is always concerned with the individual. Love is individual, intimate, close.
