It is I; Do Not Be Afraid

Thank you for joining us for this new week of Freedom Fighters. I appreciate you and trust our bloggers are encouraging you in your walk with the Lord.

The past several weeks for me have been stressful – well more stressful than usual. There’s just a lot of stuff going on around me, and as you understand, there are those days that get overwhelming.

On Friday morning, I overslept, and I was going to skip my time with the Lord because I needed to get to work. BUT I decided to listen to the Spirit’s prompting in my life and stopped to take the time to meet with the Lord.

Jim Lang, our Senior Vice-President, gave me a Lenten Devotional written by Pastor Adam Ramsey. It is based on the sayings of Jesus.

The chapter I read on Friday morning was about the passage when the disciples were out fishing and a ferocious storm arose and suddenly, this figure appeared walking on the water.

Now let’s be honest. If you were in that situation, do you think you would be more spiritual than the disciples? That would have freaked me out. People don’t appear out of nowhere, and I have never met anyone who could walk on water.

But Jesus says to the disciples IN THE MIDST OF THE STORM – “It is I; Do Not Be Afraid!”

In the midst of the storms of life – those tumultuous times it is so comforting to KNOW that we are not alone. Jesus is ALWAYS with us. He NEVER leaves us or forsakes us.

“Jesus told the disciples: ‘In the world, you WILL have tribulation.’ Notice He didn’t use the word COULD or MIGHT. YOU WILL have tribulation. And then there is one of the Biblical ‘BUT’S’ – ‘But take heart; I have overcome the world.'” (John 16:33)

Pastor Adam writes: “Fix your eyes on the storms around you and your heart will be battered by despair. Fix your eyes on the resources within you and your hope will extend only as far as your creaturely limitations. Fix your eyes instead upon Jesus and you will discover sufficient grace woven into every present and future trouble!

There is no storm in your future that He will abandon you to face alone. There is no night so dark or wind so strong or wave so high that it will separate you from the ever-present and invincible nearness of Jesus.”

Are you facing some tumultuous times in your life right now? Jesus is there! Here is there with you in the midst of the storm. HE WILL SEE YOU THROUGH! You can count on it. You can anchor your HOPE in Him.

Charles Spurgeon said this: “It is Jesus who walks the water of your trouble and comes to you – Jesus the Son of God, the Alpha and Omega, the Head over all things to His church – the All in all of his people … The comfort of the Lord’s people lies in the person and character of Jesus. Here is their solace: “IT IS I!”

We hear for you. If you need prayer right now, email me at bwelte@americaskeswick.org, and our team will pray for you and your family.

Have a blessed week.
