If You Want to Raise a Pharisee (Part 2)

Posted on June 17, 2019 by America's Keswick in Freedom Fighters

If you missed Part 1 from last week, send me your email and I will forward it to you.

Pastor Randy Smith, Grace Bible Church, Wall Township, shared 17 principles of raising a Pharisee.

I shared the first eight with you last week, here is the rest of the list:

  1. Praise their externals regardless of their motives.
  2. Teach them to obey only because they have to and not because they should also want to. Say and model nothing about God’s commands coming from a loving and trustworthy Father.
  3. Make your discipline punishment rather than correction.
  4. Demand self-reformation, rather than pointing them to Christ-transformation by grace.
  5. Teach them to obey you as God rather than to obey God by obeying you.
  6. Use Scripture and church as punishment.
  7. Never pray for them.
  8. Correct them more than you encourage them.
  9. Drive your kids into external conformity, often to simply make yourself look good and do nothing to shepherd their hearts.

Ouch! Ouch! Ouch!

I don’t want to make the same mistakes with my grands. Thanks, Pastor Randy for this list.

Think About This: “We must remind ourselves that God loves us, not because we are loveable, but because we are in Christ, and the love which the Father has for his Son flows over to us because we are in him.” —Jerry Bridge
