God Knows

I am sure it’s happened to you. It happens to me frequently. These are the moments that you know that you know that God is there, and He reminds you – “Relax, I’ve got you and the situation you are facing.”

Welcome to a new week of Freedom Fighter blogs. I am so thankful for you and your steadfastness in following us. I am really thankful for the comments that you send to our writers. It is such an encouragement to them to keep writing and sharing their journey with you.

It has been a difficult couple of days. We were doing our best to provide ministry to someone who was really hurting, and everything was going in the wrong direction.

Obviously, I can’t give you details, but I am sure you have been in those situations in your life where the harder you are trying to love like Jesus and care for someone, nothing seems to go right.

Things came to a head-on Friday morning, and I knew that a confrontation had to take place. The Holy Spirit prompted me to get my Administrative Assistant to go with me, and I am so glad I obeyed His prompting.

It has a difficult discussion but one that was necessary for the person and our ministry. I had peace.

Saturday morning, I woke up to a scathing email from someone involved with this person who has little or no involvement. My initial reaction at 6 AM when reading the email was first, anger and then anxiety washed over me like crazy.

I almost skipped my quiet time, BUT I didn’t, and I am sure glad that I didn’t. In fact, it started in the shower! I know – but God so often speaks to me in the shower.

I had just shared a message on using my words last Sunday night at the Colony Chapel. Now I had to apply what I shared!!! I was composing in my head a response, not actually a reaction, to the email. And then the Lord spoke back to me from His Word – “There’s a time to speak and time to be silent.” His prompting was to leave it alone and let Him handle it.

When I went to my desk, the verse from the Psalm was about to read from my Bible reading plan was “I will guard my ways that I might not sin with my tongue. I will guard my mouth as with a muzzle.” Psalm 39:1

At that point, my phone dinged, and a friend sent me a verse: “Be merciful to my, O God, be merciful to me, for in You my soul takes refuge; in the shadow of Your wings I will take refuge, till the storms of destruction pass by. Psalm 57:1 Coincidence? I don’t think so.

Then I read these words from Paul David Tripp in his devotional I have been reading as part of my quiet time: You don’t have to live in timidity and fear. You don’t have to give way to temptation. You don’t have to surrender your desires to the things of this world. You don’t have to chase after idols. You don’t have to fear God’s rejection when you have failed. You don’t have to fear being honest about your sin, weakness, and failure. You don’t have to look for identity where it can’t be found. You can say no to the enemy. You don’t have to fake righteousness you don’t really have. You don’t have to let anxiety rule your heart. You can rest in the unshakable love and forgiveness that is yours because of the victory of Jesus on your behalf.

I am so glad that God knows what we need and when we need it. I am thankful that He cares about us and that He stands ready to speak to our hearts and transform our lives.

My “normal normal” would be to stew about something like this all day. But guys, I surrendered the situation to Him, and He flooded my heart with His peace.

I hope this encourages you today to spend time with the Lord each day and trust Him. I’m a slow learner – but it’s worth it. Have a great day.

This Week’s Verse to Memorize: “Therefore, as the elect of God, holy and beloved, put on tender mercies, kindness, humility, meekness, longsuffering; 13 bearing with one another, and forgiving one another, if anyone has a complaint against another; even as Christ forgave you, so you also must do.” Colossians 3:12-13
