Faith that Works II

Posted on January 30, 2018 by Graeme Wilson in Freedom Fighters

12 years ago, when I entered the Colony of Mercy, I had developed abandonment issues, trust issues, fears, anxieties, and a host of other unhealthy dispositions. These were fueled by various traumatic events, dishonest people, my own sin and the like. In that, I began the journey with less than a mustard seed of faith – basically, a skeptic.

However, the Lord and many of His people demonstrated that faith is not formed by my past circumstances or any of those people. I began to trust.

Then, I was confronted with a ghost from my past that was about to change the trajectory of my life. I was charged and handcuffed for a crime that was committed a year before I entered the Colony. The charges could potentially land me in jail for really long time. I could lie or fight with a lawyer. But God!

The Holy Spirit’s conviction, “If you use your old resources, or old ways of doing things, to handle this matter than you are in no better condition than before you entered the Colony.” And by faith I trusted the Lord and pleaded guilty. And through faith the good Lord gave me grace.

Here’s how Sir Francis Drake addresses faith:
“Disturb us, Lord, when we are too well pleased with ourselves,
when our dreams have come true because we have dreamed too little,
when we arrive safely because we sailed too close to the shore.
Disturb us, Lord, when with the abundance of things, we possess,
we have lost our thirst for the waters of life, having fallen in love with life, we have ceased to dream of eternity, and in our efforts to build a new earth,
we have allowed our vision of the new heaven to dim.
Disturb us, Lord, to dare more boldly, to venture on wider seas, where storms will show your mastery, where losing sight of land, we shall find the stars. We ask you to push back the horizon of our hopes, and to push us into the future in strength, courage, hope, and love. This we ask in the name of our Captain, who is Jesus Christ.”
