Concerning this Child

“Now when they had seen Him, they made widely known the saying which was told them concerning this Child.” — Luke 2:17

Some people ask me “How do you know if you found the right Church?” To which I reply, “Is the shepherd telling you the things concerning this Child?” From what we are told the message to the shepherds was, “For there is born to you this day in the city of David a Savior, who is Christ the Lord.

This would have been a direct command by God to the Angels as obedient messengers from God. To deliver a simple message, “For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life.” A message as simple as that accompanied with the Glory of God and a choir of Heavenly Hosts.

A message that had been delivered after the birth of Jesus,  a reminder to all of us that God’s visitation is the reality of what the Holy Spirit has been telling us would happen. The order of events was a preliminary message to Mary and Joseph of the things about to happen and then the word of man that simply confirmed what they have already been told.

We as believers have been given the knowledge of the Holy One by the Spirit of God who continues to testify of His presence in our lives. It’s important for us to connect the Word of God with the work of the Holy Spirit in order to complete the transaction and have the full benefit of the peace and joy that is our salvation. To be able to prepare our hearts by a daily dose of “our daily Bread” we too have the responsibility of keeping ourselves spiritually fed and nourished with the things “Concerning this Child.” When we pray and ask God to reveal Himself, we are putting ourselves in a position to receive the knowledge that is God’s word. It’s a daily routine of asking and receiving, the two part epoxy that holds our lives together.

The evidence of this kind of experience is followed by what the Shepherds did, “Then the shepherds returned, glorifying and praising God for all the things that they had heard and seen, as it was told them.” Glorifying and praising, living a life that brings God glory and praising His name. The two characteristics that should define our lives.

As we move from the birth of Christ, lets establish a shepherd’s mentality. Let’s allow the Spirit of God to help us believe the Word of God. I pray the as we enter a new year we would establish our faith and always be about the things “Concerning this Child”. Amen!

Daily Quote: “The immense step from the Babe at Bethlehem to the living, reigning triumphant Lord Jesus, returning to earth for His own people – that is the glorious truth proclaimed throughout Scripture. As the bells ring out the joys of Christmas, may we also be alert for the final trumpet that will announce His return, when we shall always be with Him.” – Alan Redpath

This Week’s Verse to Memorize: For we through the Spirit eagerly wait for the hope of righteousness by faith. Galatians 5:5
