Love is a Choice

1 Corinthians 13: 4-8 – Love is patient and kind love does not envy or boast it is not arrogant or rude. It does not insist on its own way, it is not irritable or resentful, it does not rejoice in wrong doing, but rejoices with the truth. Love bears all things believes all things hopes all things endured all things Love never ends…
When Ray came to the Colony of Mercy, I believed that I had loved him and he had loved me the best he knew how. After reading 1 Corinthians 13: 4-8, I realized we didn’t know how to love each other or understand what love is. One of my assignments as a Woman of Character was to look up all the definitions of each word love was according to God’s word.
I’ll tell you what love is not. It is not a feeling, it is a choice. TV shows all this romantic love, mushy dancing, candle-lit dinners, and walks in the beach. That’s not love, that’s TV. Real love is a commitment and a choice. I wake up everyday and choose to love Ray the way God says he needs to be loved. We made a covenant with God to love each other with God’s help.
I thought I had loved before, but this love God has showed me is so much more than anything I have ever known. It’s real, it’s deep, and it’s lasting. But I choose it everyday. I choose to love Ray and others the way God had intended all of us to love each other. The way Jesus loved us all. Next time you think you are loving towards someone, check 1 Corinthians 13 and see if you really are.
The world would be a better place if we really loved that way.
Lord help us all to love each other with your example of love. And please start with me. Amen
