The Right Man for the Job

“Do not neglect the gift that is in you, which was given to you by prophecy with the laying on of the hands of the eldership.” 1st Timothy 4:14
I once heard a guy say he spent his whole life climbing the “Ladder of Success” only to find out he climbed the wrong ladder. The basic meaning is this person battled through life doing the wrong job, ignoring his true calling in life and pursuing something that looked better.
How many of us can look back and feel as if they should have spent their time more wisely? Hindsight being 20/20, we can come to the realization that regret is a trap that can keep us in a depression. Besides, when we have eternity to spend with the Lord and each other it’s really just a drop in the bucket and most certainly things could be much worse.
When it comes to our walk with the Lord we also have a job to do. This is a place where we can find ourselves seeking a ladder to climb – where and how does the Lord want to use us? The Apostle Paul spent time grooming a young Timothy and often reminding him of his calling, “Do not neglect the gift that is in you, which was given to you by prophecy with the laying on of the hands of the eldership.” I wonder how many of us are seeking the “gift that is in [us]?” The Bible teaches that we each have a gift or gifts that equip us to do the works of ministry. The good news is God will use a willing vessel at any time in life, it’s never too late. Although we may have regrets of not following the Lord’s call on our life sooner we are never too late. There is a place where “You are the right man (woman) for the job.” It may be on the front lines of evangelism or behind the scenes as a prayer warrior for the Saints. And although we can all do most things there are still those areas we are specifically called to serve.
Paul goes on to say, “Meditate on these things; give yourself entirely to them, that your progress may be evident to all. Take heed to yourself and to the doctrine. Continue in them, for in doing this you will save both yourself and those who hear you.” Meditate, give yourself, take heed and continue in the admonition given to succeed. This advice is good to save us and those around us from falling into temptation and failing in the trials of life, “for in doing this you will save both yourself and those who hear you.” Being kept safe and having security is easily found when we are doing what we are supposed to be doing. Being “The right man for the job” helps the Body of Christ function and fire on all cylinders, when we serve in the right capacity, with the right motives we become a healthy vessel. Amen!
