“Because they did not pursue it by faith, but as though it were by works. They stumbled over the stumbling stone.” ~Romans 9:32

Israel’s had such a roller coaster relationship with God because they did things in their own eyes. They pursued the law as if it would have provided eternal life and created a work base system. They were enmeshed with the reality of being a law abiding society. And pride themselves of being chosen and set apart from all other nations.

The answer to humanity’s biggest problem entered at the fullness of time. The Messiah was here and Jesus came to give them eternal life. The prophets prophesied about it; and the completion of the law was here. Jesus/salvation was now available for them and they stumbled over the very thing meant to save them. The Rock, the Cornerstone was their stumble stone.

Before we quickly judge, what are our stumbling blocks? What are the things that are in our way from fully accepting Jesus and His ways? The world presents various subjective realities to challenge the Truth of God and His Word. Is there sin, is it our lofty positions, our worldly ideals. Remember, Another authority manages the world system, “For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the powers, against the world forces of this darkness, against the spiritual forces of wickedness in the heavenly places.”(Ephesians 6:12)

For me, I have to be transparent to the stumbling blocks that could hinder my personal relationship with God. This could come in the form of sin or idols or even positive outcomes like my position, family, theologies etc…

Like the Children of Israel, we need to be on the lookout for whatever hinders/stumbles our walk with Christ. Be alert!
