“So we built the wall; and all the wall was joined together unto the half thereof: for the people had a mind to work.” -Nehemiah 4:6

I’m at the age where I’ve had the privilege to witness men and women graduate from High school and go right to work with various corporations. No college, no skills, and more or less no work experience. But a company would take a chance with you if you had potential or at least a mind to work. In addition, I get to see the fruit of their labor years later; retiring with a plethora of life experience.

Nehemiah prayed, fasted, and sought the Lord, but the wall of Jerusalem wasn’t getting built unless they put some feet to their convictions. They push through the tension and accomplished this very tedious task.

So the wall was finished on the twenty-fifth day of the month Elul, in fifty-two days.(Nehemiah 6:15

A mind to work connected the spiritual with physical; faith in action. A mind to work is the application or the illustration of the grace we received from our Savior. People will compromise, run short, and frustration will set in, ‘But those who trust in the Lord will renew their strength’. When you believe in Jesus, and that Jesus is in the work this mindset enables things to happen. A mind to work is finishing the race God has equipped you to do and called you to do.

Daily Quote: “The Christian life requires hard work. Our sanctification is a process wherein we are coworkers with God. We have the promise of God’s assistance in our labor, but His divine help does not annul our responsibility to work (Phil. 2:12-13).” – RC Sproul
