BE A SPONGE

Years ago, someone was interviewing the Rev. Billy Graham. The person had asked him if there was anything in his life that he would do over what would it be? Without hesitating Rev. Graham said I would study the Bible more! WHAT!!! Study it more! That scared the living you know what out of me. A man so revered in the Christian world would want to study it more?
But we as Christians do have an obligation to study God’s word more and more. Listening to podcasts and messages more now than ever at home, it’s great to see so many wonderful men, and women, present God’s word in a new light that I’ve never heard before.

Matthew 11:29 “Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your soul.”

I take this passage to mean pick up your Bible daily and learn the teachings that have been handed down before you. There is no wrong way to read God’s word. Every scripture speaks differently to people. Every bible study will give new insight into what God’s plan is for you. Never be ashamed to speak to people if you’re not understanding what God is saying in his word. Studying the Bible shouldn’t be a chore, it should be a pleasure that we enjoy. It’s a lifelong process that doesn’t end until we see our father face to face. Is your sponge dry? Or soaking up all that God has to offer.

This Week’s Verse to Memorize: Then Jesus said to His disciples, “If anyone desires to come after Me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross, and follow Me. 25 For whoever desires to save his life will lose it, but whoever loses his life for My sake will find it. –Matthew 16:24-25
