When and What I Should Pray For

Posted on March 7, 2022 by Catey Stover in Freedom Fighters

As I have been reading through the Bible this year, I started to notice how many things I can and should be praying about. My list is ongoing, but so far, I have gleaned a list of 40 things:

  1. Pray to cleanse my heart from sin.
  2. Pray when I am overwhelmed.
  3. Pray when I am anxious.
  4. Pray when I am afraid.
  5. Pray with persistence.
  6. Pray without ceasing.
  7. Pray for wisdom.
  8. Pray for understanding.
  9. Pray for unity.
  10. Pray when I am struggling with temptation.
  11. Pray when I am sick, or someone I love is sick.
  12. Pray to offer praise to God.
  13. Pray to receive grace and mercy.
  14. Pray for discernment.
  15. Pray for a nation.
  16. Pray for peace in Jerusalem.
  17. Pray for the nations.
  18. Pray for boldness.
  19. Pray for courage.
  20. Pray for someone to be saved.
  21. Pray that eyes would be opened.
  22. Pray for your friends.
  23. Pray for the spread of the gospel.
  24. Pray for your enemies and persecutors.
  25. Pray for a change in a situation.
  26. Pray for contentment.
  27. Pray for deliverance.
  28. Pray for God’s favor.
  29. Pray that you will be closer to God.
  30. Pray for divine healing.
  31. Pray for God’s will.
  32. Pray that you will keep from being selfish.
  33. Pray for forgiveness and for those asking your forgiveness.
  34. Pray for a change in attitude.
  35. Pray for hope to increase.
  36. Pray for your family.
  37. Pray to give God praise and thanksgiving.
  38. Pray for God’s will to be accomplished.
  39. Pray for an open heart.
  40. Pray for a greater understanding of who I am in Christ.

The bottom line of my discovery is this: PRAY ABOUT ANYTHING & EVERYTHING!!! Some of us are slow on the draw. Rather than praying that God will keep me from temptation BEFORE we yield, we often find ourselves praying too late – and then we are asking for forgiveness for sinning.

Over the next couple of Mondays, I will unpack some of these and share what I have learned and am learning in my life about prayer. I am praying for YOU!

Think About This: “We forget that God’s primary goal is not changing our situations or relationships so that we can be happy, but changing us through our situations and relationships so that we will be holy.” ― Paul David Tripp
