As I have been reading through the Bible this year, I started to notice how many things I can and should be praying about. My list is ongoing, but so far, I have gleaned a list of 40 things:
- Pray to cleanse my heart from sin.
- Pray when I am overwhelmed.
- Pray when I am anxious.
- Pray when I am afraid.
- Pray with persistence.
- Pray without ceasing.
- Pray for wisdom.
- Pray for understanding.
- Pray for unity.
- Pray when I am struggling with temptation.
- Pray when I am sick, or someone I love is sick.
- Pray to offer praise to God.
- Pray to receive grace and mercy.
- Pray for discernment.
- Pray for a nation.
- Pray for peace in Jerusalem.
- Pray for the nations.
- Pray for boldness.
- Pray for courage.
- Pray for someone to be saved.
- Pray that eyes would be opened.
- Pray for your friends.
- Pray for the spread of the gospel.
- Pray for your enemies and persecutors.
- Pray for a change in a situation.
- Pray for contentment.
- Pray for deliverance.
- Pray for God’s favor.
- Pray that you will be closer to God.
- Pray for divine healing.
- Pray for God’s will.
- Pray that you will keep from being selfish.
- Pray for forgiveness and for those asking your forgiveness.
- Pray for a change in attitude.
- Pray for hope to increase.
- Pray for your family.
- Pray to give God praise and thanksgiving.
- Pray for God’s will to be accomplished.
- Pray for an open heart.
- Pray for a greater understanding of who I am in Christ.
The bottom line of my discovery is this: PRAY ABOUT ANYTHING & EVERYTHING!!! Some of us are slow on the draw. Rather than praying that God will keep me from temptation BEFORE we yield, we often find ourselves praying too late – and then we are asking for forgiveness for sinning.
Over the next couple of Mondays, I will unpack some of these and share what I have learned and am learning in my life about prayer. I am praying for YOU!
