WORRY TO WORRY

“Therefore, do not worry, saying, ‘What shall we eat?’ or ‘What shall we drink?’ or ‘What shall we wear?’” — Matthew 6:31

Ever worry about a situation for a long time? Years, maybe? Then, what seems like all of a sudden, God miraculously intervenes and POOF, problem solved! Wow! Joy, happiness, praise, worship and thankfulness fill our hearts for, what…a day?, a week?, a month? Hmmm, seems our built-in capacity to worry is limitless. Joy can fade quickly as we move on to the next thing to worry about.

Certainly, our problems force us to our knees, which causes our faith to grow and draws us nearer to Jesus. Think for a minute about how our Lord looks forward to these days of deliverance. When He answers that worry, that fear, with His amazing grace, imagine how He feels knowing He has given the “peace that passes all understanding” to His child.

Let’s challenge ourselves to rejoice with, and in, Him longer than we tend to do. Bask awhile longer in the blessed assurance of His love. Let Him know how much you appreciate His goodness toward you. Allow these moments of deliverance to linger in your memory, and savor them, over and over before you pick up that next thing to worry about.

“Bless the LORD, O my soul, and forget not all His benefits…” Psalm 103:2

I like this little ditty from Chuck Swindoll:

When the temptation to worry first arrives, that’s the critical moment. The tendency is to entertain it.

To let it on to the front porch and allow it to sit there. But before you know it, worry has crawled in from the window and made itself at home! No, worry must be stopped. We have to decide that we are going to commit this worry to God right now and refuse to entertain it, even on the front porch of our thinking.

Good stuff!
