The Big Mixing Pot

“in whatsoever state I am, therewith to be content.”  (Philippians 4:11)

I struggle daily with trying to measure up to everyone else and never feeling like I quite fit in.  It is amazing the show we can put on and the masks that we wear.  We need to remember that God has equipped us with just the right talents and gifts needed for us to perform, exactly what He needs us to do.

In my job there are times when I am called upon to be in a very public position, to “be on stage” or handle an event and I feel the panic. Knowing how I feel, I should know better.  This helps me understand my oldest son’s concerns when he shares them with me.

Once when he was maybe five or six he was struggling with fitting in at his school. He was close to tears and I needed to console him.  So, as any mother would do I got creative.

In a childlike way I needed to help him through this…the lesson I taught him was a lesson I repeat to myself each day.  I still need to rely on the Lord’s help in my life.

What I told him was the Lord had a ministry that He needed to get done so He looked around (and I named my son’s friends’ names), but He still could not find the right person.  Therefore, the Lord took His big pot that He used to create us all and poured in the talents, strengths, personality, looks, style and appearance that He needed for this job.  When the Lord was done adding all the ingredients what appeared was my son

I then went on to explain that God needs each one of us for a special job and He created us to be exactly what He needs us to be.  We might see others that seem more talented and even more qualified.  However, He created me for a specific job.

Oh, to remember daily that I was created in His image for His purpose and, yes, He has a purpose for me that is different from anyone else.
