Sweet Treats

My grandson loves sweet treats.  Anything that is sweet counts:  ice cream, candy, pastry, any kind of dessert.  But, sweets treats are special because the family does not usually eat dessert.  He must earn the sweet treats.  He may have to clean his room, pick up toys, or be “good” all morning, etc.  He really tries hard to get those sweet treats and looks forward to receiving them.

Psalm 19:10 says that the Word of God is more desirable than gold and sweeter than honey and the drippings of the honeycomb.  That is sweet!  Do we desire the Word of God like that?  Do we look forward to being in the Word?  We do not have to earn the right to read it.  God already gave it to us!

It is for our benefit.  Proverbs 24: 13, 14 (GNT) says, “just as honey from the comb is sweet on your tongue, you may be sure that wisdom is good for the soul.  Get wisdom and you have a bright future.”  So why do we find it so hard to read and concentrate on His word?  Because Satan knows it is good for us and he does not want us to be nourished by it.

May we not allow ourselves to be malnourished.  Let us look forward to reading God’s word as though it is a sweet treat.

Written by Denise Zambrano: Denise loves to teach the Bible and sing. She teaches a women’s Bible study and a high school Sunday School class.  Along with her daughter, Linda, she is an advocate at A Baby’s Breath (a crisis pregnancy center). She loves being a grandmother to Tim, Becky, Alexander, and William (who is with Jesus).  She was a missionary with Radio Station HCJB in Quito, Ecuador for 35 years.

Think About This: “God is completely sovereign. God is infinite in wisdom. God is perfect in love. God in His love always wills what is best for us. In His wisdom He always knows what is best, and in His sovereignty He has the power to bring it about.” – Jerry Bridges.
