Speak Love

“I need to lose weight!”

“Ugh, I used to have such better skin than this.”

“I seriously need to get more flattering clothes.”

Have you said any of these sentences to yourself in the last month? Week? Day? How often are we our own worst critics? How often do we insult our own appearance, social life, personality, mind, or abilities? The answer – way to often and it’s done way too easily. How quickly that can ruin mental health and confidence!!

Focusing on self-improvement isn’t wrong, but there is a difference between focusing on self-improvement and bullying ourselves. We need to remember that we are the Lord’s masterpieces, and He made us with intentionality, love, and purpose.

Psalm 139:13-14 says this,

“For you created my inmost being;

You knit me together in my mother’s womb.

I praise you because I am fearfully and wonderfully made;

Your works are wonderful,

I know that full well.” (emphasis mine.)

Let’s reflect on this verse together.

What does it say about you?

1. We are created by God

  1. We are fearfully and wonderfully made
  2. We are a wonderful work

(Bonus: Ephesians 2:10 calls us a masterpiece!)

What does it say about Him?

  1. He created us with intentionality (verse 13)
  1. He worked hard on us! (verse 14)
  1. He can be trusted (verse 14)

On a regular basis, are we speaking this truth to ourselves or believing the lies of the enemy?

Let’s challenge each other to speak to ourselves like we’d speak to our children, nieces, or nephews. And if you don’t have any of those, pull up a picture of yourself at age 10 or younger. Didn’t that young girl have so much value and so much potential? She still does. So whatever you’d say to her then, say to her now. I’m sure you’ll find yourself speaking words of grace, love, and kindness. 🤗

Think About This: “God dwells in His creation and is everywhere indivisibly present in all His works. He is transcendent above all His works even while He is immanent within them.” – A.W. Tozer
