Redacted Bible

For I have not shunned to declare to you the whole counsel of God. Acts 20:27

I probably don’t need to even say much because the title alone, Redacted Bible, paints a XXXXXXXXXXX picture.

Let me ask some searching questions today: When we read our Bible, hear a sermon or podcast do we read and listen with an open heart? XXXXX do we come to the Word with an expectation XXXXXX from God?  Do we humbly submit ourselves under the Word being changed to align our XXXXXXXXX lives with God’s word?  Do we, like the scribes and Pharisees, come in judgement of the word, XXXXXX what we want to obey and what we do not?

“Woe to you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! For you pay tithe of mint and anise and cummin, and have neglected the weightier matters of the law: justice and mercy and faith. These you ought to have done, without leaving the others undone. Matthew 23:23

If we approach Scripture as a guide book, we will toss out what we don’t agree with or that which is difficult or inconvenient.  If however we approach Scripture with humility, submitting ourselves to the word with a predisposition towards loving obedience we will eagerly take in every word.

For thus says the High and Lofty One Who inhabits eternity, whose name is Holy: “I dwell in the high and holy place, With him who has a contrite and humble spirit, To revive the spirit of the humble, And to revive the heart of the contrite ones. Isaiah 57:15

If we scratch out parts of Scripture (or XXXXX like I did here), not literally but functionally, the truth in our hearts and minds will be choppy and awkward just like the short paragraph above with redacted words or phrases.

Paul emphasized the importance of embracing ALL of God’s word, not just the parts we like or that is easy.  For I have not shunned to declare to you the whole counsel of God. Acts 20:27

Let me close with this question: Does your life reflect the whole counsel of God or a redacted Bible?

Blessings,

XXXXXXXX

Think About This: Far too many Christians try to “ride the fence” in today’s world. They get caught between clear biblical teaching and what culture pressures them to believe and so they attempt to strike some sort of compromise. It’s time for true Christians to challenge those who are riding on the fence and ask them the question Elijah once asked Israel as they strayed from God – how long will you hesitate between two opinions? – Jack Wilkie
